Straum

Straum is my new computer. I like to brag. Thus:

Intel likes to claim that their 5 x 133 processor runs at 667 MHz, presumably to avoid offending any fundie freaks, but Linux tells the truth:

Detected 666445803 Hz processor.
At the moment, I'm on a keyboard binge, so I'm testing the Happy Hacking Keyboard Lite and the Sun Type 6 USB keyboard (Part Number 320-1273, apparently replaced by 320-1275). I don't know yet if what I really want is the Star Trek 500 key keyboard or the ultra-minimalist approach. The Happy Hacker is working well at the moment and better approximates the feel of the Sun Type 5 which is my true love. And it has DIP switches! Who can fail to love any hardware that has DIP switches?

Here's a price list. All this hardware was purchased between June 15 and June 27, 2000.

That's just about $1 per MHz, or $1/BogoMIPS (50 cents if you traffic in the inflated 2.4 figures).
